One of the largest tracts of privately owned land in downtown Northampton was sold by Donald Shaw on July 2nd to Winterberry LLC , a limited liability company managed by Matthew Campagnari, operating out of a shop at 128 Federal Street in Springfield. It is not clear at present whether he is the Matthew Campagnari who was involved in the Springfield federal corruption investigations in 2007. Stay tuned. He has purchased the land and at least four buildings on the property. There is the motel at 87-89 Bridge Street, two buildings fronting on Pomeroy Terrace, and a garage now almost completely lost in the undergrowth.
He plans to convert most of the buildings to condominiums. The buildings were abandoned after the motel closed in the late 1990s and it was officially shut down more than 13 years ago. In 2012, Building Commissioner Louis Hasbrouck declared the structure unsafe after a tour with police, fire and health officials. He found that the building’s stairs, balcony and floors were in poor condition. The property has been on the market for some time.
