The Case for a City Manager in Northampton

  1. Interesting post and you offer something to consider. But I’m curious: In what ways do you think there would be marked improvements in how this city is run with a city manager? Would departments be shrunk? How would this person succeed in a way a mayor can’t?

The assumption in this article is that a city manager operates from a purely rational and enlightened perspective and is unaffected by influence peddling and departmental politics. Knowing what we know about Northampton and how things have historically been done here, why wouldn’t a city manager just be another Narcewicz (or, worse, Higgins)?
